This dealership is a tried-and-true, four-generations-deep, family business. But beyond our literal family, we hire with a family mindset which means our entire team is welcomed into the fold. Then, at the end of the day, we each go home to our own families, knowing we gave it our all to support them best.

The History of Smith Auto Family
In 1951, Bill H. Smith moved his family to Slaton, Texas, and started Slaton Motor Company. Smith had previously worked for Ford and quickly fell in love with the car business. He had the charisma of a true salesman, and the Slaton Motor Company was a success!
By 1965, Bill's son, Steve Smith, was actively involved in the store. In 1966, the father and son moved from their original downtown location to 1700 W. Division and renamed the family business "Smith Ford." This heritage store still operates in Slaton at this address today.
In 1982, Steve's daughter, Annette, began working full-time at Smith Ford, and in 1989, she became the general manager. Meanwhile, in the small town of West, Texas, Patrick Sykora was earning his stripes at the family dealership, Sykora Family Ford. In 1997, Annette and Pat were married and became partners in the Slaton dealership.
In 1999, Annette and Patrick embarked on an exciting expansion journey as they opened a new location in Levelland, Texas, and rebranded as “Smith South Plains.
The 2010s brought an enhancement to the family atmosphere as two of Annette and Patrick’s five children, Nicole Campbell, and Holden Sykora, joined the business.
Fast forward to 2021, and our journey took another meaningful turn as we underwent a name change to "Smith Auto Family." This change coincided with the acquisition of our Plainview location, a move that emphasized our deep-rooted family values and dedication to delivering top-notch service. The addition of "family" to our name reflected not only our ownership but also the spirit of unity and dedication that has driven us since our inception. We take immense pride in our history, our family legacy, and our continued commitment to providing quality automotive solutions to the communities we serve.
Also in 2021 we opened a stand alone Quick Lane in Levelland serving all makes and models with tires, brakes, batteries, oil changes and more.
2024 took a toll on the family and organization with the untimely death of Tell Campbell who was our Fixed Operations director. Annette and Patrick’s youngest son returned to the business and took over the role of overseeing parts and service in all 5 locations. Andrea Sykora, Ryan’s wife is our systems administrator and accountant.
We also opened a second standalone Quick Lane this time in Plainview increasing our ongoing commitment to quality service for the regions we serve.
Today, we serve the communities of Slaton, Levelland and Plainview with five locations.
